New Year History (why does the New year begin on January 1)
Ok, The first I want to tell you that why does the new year begin on January 1. As per the experts of world history and scientists also the very first Evidence of new year is found in Mesopotamian Culture. This is the era of 2000 BC when the citizen of Babylon celebrated the new year on March 1. In that time calendars, the year started on 1st March. But at that time it was only 10 Months in a year.
In year 153 BC, the Numa Pontius, The Roman king Started a new calendar and he added two new months in it named January And February. But after all people were going to celebrate the New year on March 1 for the long time. This Calendar was named by Julius Caesar.
That Calendar Reformed in 46 BC and This time it named by Julian Calendar and they started to celebrate the new year on January 1. And that was the year 42 BC when Roman State voted to define January as a New Year Start.
But Most of countries and states accepted January 1 as a new year after the Gregorian Calendar. But England adopted the Gregorian Calendar in 1752. Before It England Celebrated the New year on 25 March, This day was also popular by the name of Lady day. January 1 was known by the day of fast of Jesus. That is the 8th day of Christ Jesus. Because people celebrate 25 December as the birthday of Jesus.
